New Orleans April Calendar of Events

There are lots of things to do in New Orleans in April.  The weather is great, most of the time, tempting people to dine al fresco, visit area parks, get in to their gardens, and go to a few local festivals.  The popular French Quarter Festival is in April and the internationally famous Jazz Fest starts at the end of the month.   Here's a calendar of New Orleans events for April 2011:

Navy Week - Bicentennial of the War of 1812

New Orleans Navy Week 2012 is off the charts. It kicks off the national celebrations of the Bicentennial of the War of 1812 (and will also be the finale of that celebration in three years). Festivities include visits from huge Navy vessels and tall ships - the old fashioned sailing ships, as well as educational events, concerts, Blue Angels air shops (see below), and much more, in addition to thousands of visiting sailors. April 17 -23, 2012.

Blue Angels Air Shows on Lake Ponchartrain

As part of New Orleans Navy Week & the War of 1812 Bicentennial celebration, two Air Shows, starring the Blue Angels and many other performances, are planned over Lake Pontchartrain on April 21 and 22, 2012.. Get the scoop on the aircraft, highlights, parking and more.

FilmOrama

The New Orleans Film Society's FilmOrama prsent movies from noon to night at the Prytania Theater, April 20-26, 2012

Zoo To Do for Kids

This annual event for kids of all ages at New Orleans Audubon Zoo features giant inflatables, live entertainment and complimentary food and drink. General admission prices are $25; $20 for zoo members. There are also early entry options.

Porch Sale of the Century in Algiers Point

Algiers Point must be the best spot for a picture of the visiting Navy Week ships and the neighborhood's Porch Sale is happening during Navy Week. The Sale of the Century event actually happens every year and include includes at least 100 "porch sales" (that's the Point's version of garage sales) all around historic Algiers Point. While looking for your own "Treasure from the Point", you can take a walking tour of the Point or just wander around, stop for local food and drink, or even hop on the ferry for a quick trip downtown for a closer look at the ships. Zurich Classic Golf Tournament

April in New Orleans is usually a great time for golf or any outdoor activity. The Zurich Classic of New Orleans golf tournament is held at the TPC Louisiana, 11005 LaPalco Blvd., in Avondale. For fans there's on-course food & music in addition to the top golfers.
