Big Tasting Party, Legends Breakfast and On-Line Kick Hunger Challenge


One of the big events of Super Bowl week in New Orleans is the big Taste of New Orleans Party with a Purpose with dozens of chefs and their cuisine plus lots of NFL players and alumni, and much more. Plus a breakfast and an on-line challenge - all for the same cause.

1. Taste of the NFL Party with a Purpose

The Annual Taste of the NFL Super Bowl "Party with a Purpose" is one of the highlights of Super Bowl Week in New Orleans. It's a first-class foodie event with a chance to meet some NFL big shots and get their photos and autographs There's a hefty price tag but it's for a good cause. The Party's Purpose is raising funds for and promoting hunger relief.

The big "strolling food and wine event" features sample plates of chefs from each of the 30-something NFL team cities/areas who are each accompanied by a current or former NFL'er representing that team. The New Orleans Saints will be represented by Morten Anderson and Chef Tony McPhail of Commander's Palace.

Another highlight at our New Orleans Taste of the NFL event will be a taste of New Orleans section, "Special Flavors of New Orleans", with cuisine from this special group of local chefs:

Restaurant R'evolution - Chefs john Folse and Rick Tramonto
Le Petite Grocery - Chef Justin Devillier
Bayona - Chef Susan Spicer
Second Harvest Food Bank of GNO - Chefs Sean Daigle and Keith Faulkner
New Orleans Convention Center - Chef Stephan Blaser

Plus there will be TV food celebrities including Andrew Zimmern of the Travel Channel's Bizarre Foods as well as Mauro Castano and Joey Faugn from TLC's Cake Boss. The Cake Boss bakery, Carlo's, will be paired with the New England Patriots at the tasting. Another celebrity in attendance will be the new Miss America, New Yorker Mallory Hagan, but she probably won't be bringing any food.

In addition to the tastings, the event also includes entertainment and silent auctions for a variety of items including unique sport memorabilia, travel, food packages, etc.

The New Orleans Taste of the NFL party, the 22nd such event, is set for Super Bowl Eve at the New Orleans Morial Convention Center starting a 7 p.m. Tickets available on-line for $600. (The VIP tables $7000 sold out early.)

2. Salute to Earl Morrell Legends Breakfast

For a big less cash, tickets are also available on-line for the Taste of the NFL's Salute to Earl Morrall Legends Breakfast. It will honor Morrall for 15 years with the Kick Hunger effort and will be emceed by Scott Murrah with special guest,Coach Don Shula.

3. Kick Hunger Challenege - On-Line

The Party with the Purpose are just part of this non-profit's mission to "Kick Hunger" by raising funds for food banks in NFL cities, including New Orleans. Over 414 million dollars have been raised in the effort And you don't have to go out to a Super Bowl week meal to help the cause.

An on-line fundraiser, "The Kick Hunger Challenge" raises funds in a friendly competition between the 32 NFL teams and their fans. Go to the website to make a donation.
