NEW YEARS EVE:
There are untold places and ways to celebrate New Year's Eve in New Orleans. Check out these select lists of NYE events and the More NYE Events in metro New Orleans.
KID-FRIENDLY NYE:
Included on the List are some Kid-Friendly New Years Eve options including Noon Count-Down Parties (instead of midnight) and a River Cruise to see the spectacular Fireworks Show on the Mississippi River. (Speaking of the Fireworks Display, here are some of the best places to watch those Fireworks on New Year's Eve.)
Plus, don't forget some Christmas and Holiday events are open including some of the Best Christmas Light Displays in New Orleans like City Park's Celebration in the Oaks and Lafreniere Park's Driving Tour in Kenner. (In fact the Kenner attraction is FREE on Dec 31st and Jan 1st.)
NYE TRAFFIC:
Downtown traffic has been driving New Orleanians crazy, especially in the French Quarter, with the recent road construction to make things nice for the Super Bowl. The New Year celebration will bring more traffic and parking challenges.
Today most of the Jax Brewery area parking area was already closed with stage construction and other prep. The City of New Orleans has announced road closures near Jackson Square scheduled for Monday, December 31, 2012. In anticipation of the NYE concert and countdown by Jackson Square, Decatur St. will be down to one lane of traffic each way starting at 8 a.m. on New Year's Eve from Dumaine St. to St. Louis St. Then, Decatur St. from Wilkinson St. to Madison St. will be closed to vehicles completely from 7 p.m. NYE until 2 a.m. New Year's Day. And if you dare to park on the street, be very very careful.
