There are various ways to help other during the holidays in New Orleans including donating volunteer time, money or gifts.
Several efforts focus on helping kids in tough circumstances have more fun during Christmas and it's easy to contribute to the cause.
Ozanam Inn organizes Christmas Party on Dec. 8th for hundreds of New Orleans area children living in shelters and transitional housing. Drop off new toys or clothes at listed hotels on both sides of the river and the lake. You could also send a check to help pay for the party.
Jefferson CASA is also collecting gifts (or give $20 and volunteers will buy one on your behalf) through Dec. 20th for the children in its program and other foster children. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) volunteers represent neglected/abused children in he court system.
Toys for Tots, led by the Marines, is also conducting its annual holiday gift drive with various drop off spots.
Donate your old coats to Coats for Kids at any of the many listed drop-off spots including Cane's Restaurants and A-I stores.
